Truth #3.

Believe in Jesus Christ and be assured of eternal life!

The Philippian jailer asked, “What must I do to be saved,” and the Apostle Paul responded, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31).

To “believe on the Lord Jesus” is to trust in His sacrifice for you on Calvary’s cross by faith. Ephesians 2:8-9 states, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

There is no labor religious enough, no pocket deep enough, no virtue good enough to obligate God to save you! Jesus is your substitute!

Roman 10: 9-10, 13 tells us, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation…For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

It is by asking for salvation that we receive and by confessing that we are forgiven. 1 John 1:9 reads: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

The prayer that goes something like this…

Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I know I cannot save myself. Now in faith I ask your forgiveness. I repent of my sins and I accept your gift of eternal life. I thank you for dying for me on Calvary’s cross. I accept you and trust you as Savior and Lord of my life.  Amen

…is what Jesus affirmed when he said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life” (John 6:47).
